LTA INSTRUCTOR (LEVEL 2) CORE TRAINING

TO BE ABLE TO DO YOUR INSTRUCTOR COURSE (Level 2) QUALIFICATION YOU MUST HAVE THE BELOW PREREQUISITES IN PLACE PRIOR TO BOOKING

  • A current or previous rating of 7.1 (post 2003) or higher OR successful completion of an Instructor Readiness Test
  • Hold the Level 1 Coaching Assistant, LTA Tennis Assistant or LTA Assistant qualification.
  • Hold a DBS/PVG Enhanced Check with Child Barred List certificate applied for in the past 12 months through LTA/Tennis Scotland (volunteer certificates cannot be accepted).

This five day LTA Instructor qualification is ideal for those looking to build on the coaching foundations of the LTA Assistant qualification, enabling you to lead (not assist) in the delivery of group coaching.

For the LTA Instructor course, the five days of learning are split into core and elective days. There are four days of core training and one day of elective (Great Group Coaching: 20+ Games to End Your Lesson & Great Group Coaching: Reality vs Realism).

PLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE IS ONLY THE CORE FOUR DAYS - ELECTIVE DAY TO BE BOOKED AND PAID FOR SEPARATELY

During the course you will: 

  • Be able to provide general coaching advice across physical, mental, tactical and technical domains
  • Plan and deliver structured lessons from official LTA Adult and Junior coaching products, e.g., Cardio TennisTennis XpressLTA Youth
  • Develop more advanced skills in communication and organisation
  • Gain introductory knowledge of ‘observation and analysis’ of players
  • Understand basic principles of skill acquisition, safeguarding and player development
In addition to the five day course, guided learning hours are approximately 22 hours. This incorporates around:

  • 8 hours of qualification experience, including practical video-based tasks
  • 14 hours of online coursework on the LTA Learn platform including 15 Learn units, tests and tasks
On completion of the course, LTA Instructors are formally trained in:

  • Cardio Tennis
  • Competition Organising
  • LTA Youth
  • Safeguarding
There are two separate components to LTA Qualifications: Training and Assessment. 

TRAINING: The LTA Instructor course consists of five days of face-to-face training, separated by a minimum of four weeks. This allows time for eight hours’ work experience and coursework completion).  

ASSESSMENT
: Final assessments are conducted during a real-life lesson of your choice, at a tennis venue of your choice. Assessments are recorded by you (using smartphone equipment) and then submitted virtually by video upload. For more details please see the Assessments page.  

Assessment pre-requisites 

  • Candidates must fully complete five training days (core and elective) and all coursework tasks before they can book their final assessment. The elective day can be completed before, during or after the Core Training. 
  • Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work (FAW) Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), Paediatric First Aid (PFA) or have successfully completed the OFQUAL Level 3 in First Aid prior to assessment. This is to ensure you are safe to practice upon qualifying. 

On completion of the course, LTA Instructors will be trained as a Competition Organiser and will also receive their Safeguarding Training which can be accepted as part of LTA Coach Accreditation. Instructors will further receive the ability to run LTA Youth and Cardio tennis courses. Candidates will save on average £150 by completing these courses as part of the Instructor Qualification as opposed to taking them individually.
